Honorary Research Fellow- Epidemiology and Real-World Evidence- University of Birmingham
My professional journey began as a medical doctor in Kenya, where working across different hospital settings gave me first-hand insight into the importance of safe and effective treatment.
As my interest in drug safety grew, I undertook specialist training in pharmacovigilance, where I saw clearly how epidemiological approaches underpin signal detection, post-authorisation safety studies, benefit–risk evaluation and risk-minimisation planning.
I chose the DSRU because of its strong reputation and the opportunity to learn from experts working in industry and regulatory settings. I particularly valued the group practical sessions and the structured pre- and post-course assignments, which helped connect theory to real-world practice. These activities felt directly relevant to tasks faced in day-to-day pharmacovigilance roles and were immediately applicable in my work.
Bringing together my clinical background, research experience and public health perspective, I am motivated to contribute to the safe and responsible use of medicines and devices throughout their lifecycle. The DSRU courses have been an important part of that journey, and I am grateful for the practical skills, confidence and professional connections they helped me build.
