DSRU team’s busy conference season
Members of the DSRU team have been busy over the past few months participating in a number of key events in drug and vaccine safety and pharmacoepidemiology. Key takeaways include:
- The important role of RWE in regulatory decision making
- The growth in vaccine confidence when patients understand benefit and risk
- The transformative role of AI in drug safety and moving from potential to implementation
- The need to focus more on patients’ need for information about coping and managing side effects
International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) Annual Meeting
In August we attended the annual conference of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) in Washington DC and presented a number of posters and talks covering additional risk minimisation measures (aRMMs), signal detection, active surveillance of flu vaccine safety and European collaborative post-authorisation safety studies (PASS) on several Covid-19 vaccines. World Drug Safety Congress Europe
The DSRU team had a very busy few days at the World Drug Safety Congress (WDSC) Europe in Amsterdam in October. We received a lot of interest at our exhibition booth and Linda Härmark took part in a panel discussion on "Impacts of AI & automation on signal detection" which covered many key points, including barriers to adoption of automation and the importance of developing automated methods to predict the safety of medicines. The following week we attended the World Vaccine Congress Europe in Amsterdam.
Our Head of Epidemiology, Debabrata Roy, took part in a panel session on “Enhancing Global Vaccine Safety: Definitions, Data, and Public Trust”, which highlighted the importance of strengthening patient understanding of benefit–risk. It was good to catch up with our colleagues from Vaccine monitoring Collaboration for Europe (VAC4EU) who were participating in several sessions. More details:

International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) Annual Meeting
Our Director, Linda Härmark, attended the Annual Meeting of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) in Cairo and gave a presentation on different stakeholders’ needs from pharmacovigilance. She was also made a Fellow of ISoP at the meeting. More details:

VAC4EU 5th anniversary
The DSRU is a very active member of VAC4EU and was delighted to take part in the 5th anniversary symposium and celebrations in November. We joined colleagues from across Europe at an event in Brussels to reflect on VAC4EU's success story during the pandemic and sustainability achieved for new studies. More details:
