Discussing Evidence Supporting Regulatory Decisions at DIA Global!

19 June 2024

At the DIA 2024 Global Annual Meeting in San Diego, Saad Shakir (DSRU Director), chaired a very successful session on “Evidence Generation to Support Regulatory Decision-Making: Shift of the Trend over Time”. Samantha Lane (DSRU Senior Research Fellow) also spoke in the session.

With fellow speakers, Andrew Bate and Jeremy Jokinen, Saad and Samantha discussed the recent shifts in evidence-based regulatory decision-making, including types of evidence used to support decisions. Saad explained how evidence has shifted from over-reliance on spontaneous reporting to increasing use of multiple data sources. Samantha focused on measuring the public health impact of medicines withdrawals. The panel also considered future requirements for evidence generation to support regulatory decision-making.
