Vanessa Marshall

Vanessa qualified in medicine from UMDS (Guy's and St Thomas's Medical Schools, London) in 1997, having also completed an intercalated BSc in Experimental Pathology at Guy's hospital in 1995. Vanessa gained clinical experience in general surgery (and orthopaedics) at Guy's Hospital and general medicine (with diabetes) at William Harvey Hospital, followed by experience in Accident and Emergency Medicine at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth and Weston General Hospital, Weston-super-Mare. Following a break to have her family, Vanessa entered the world of drug safety in November 2003, becoming a Clinical Research Fellow at the Drug Safety Research Unit. From 2003- 2006, Vanessa worked mainly on Prescription Event Monitoring studies and other pharmacoepidemiological drug safety studies, presenting them as oral and poster presentations at international conferences as well as publishing in peer-reviewed journals. In May 2006, Vanessa took on the role of Project Manager of the Drug-induced Arrhythmia Risk Evaluation (DARE) study, a British Heart Foundation funded collaborative study with St. George's, University of London. This challenging study has given Vanessa experience in managing a large, national study and to Vanessa's involvement in setting up a national drug safety observational study in the Mental Health setting (OASIS Study). Vanessa became Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the DSRU in 2008. She is also actively involved in teaching, facilitating and course organisation through DSRU Education and Research Limited.
