Dr Richard Tiner, President of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine

Dr. Richard Tiner is the President of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine having taken up office in November 2009. He is also a National Research Ethics Advisor since September 2009. He is the Immediate Past – President of the Pharmaceutical Medicine and Research Section of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Dr. Tiner qualified from The Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1974. He trained in General Practice in Taunton, Somerset and worked as a GP Principal in Taunton from 1980 – 1996. From 1996-2009, he was the Medical Director of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI).

Dr. Tiner has served on a number of influential committees and boards including: the UK Clinical Research Collaboration Board, the National Cancer Research Institute Board and the Medical Advisory Board of the General Practice Research Database (GPRD).

His medical interests include: clinical research governance, patient safety particularly relating to medicines and the appropriate use of electronic patient data for the benefit of society as a whole.
