Deborah Layton

Deborah Layton graduated from Aston University, Birmingham in 1989 with a BSc in Pharmacy. She registered with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) in 1990 and has worked in both community and hospital pharmacy sectors whilst completing an MPhil on the pharmacokinetics of platinum analogues (Aston University, 1997). Deborah continues to work in community pharmacy as a locum. Deborah joined the DSRU as a Research Pharmacist in February 1999. Since then she has completed a MSc in Epidemiology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, 2001), a Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (University of Portsmouth, 2002), and a PhD on the gastrointestinal and cardiovascular safety of the COX-2 inhibitors (University of Utrecht, 2007). Her present role includes project management, statistical analysis advice, protocol review, study design and methodological development. She has an extensive publication list and provides peer review of manuscripts submitted to several high impact factor scientific journals. She is a member of the conference abstract acceptance committee of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology and the International Society of Pharmacovigilance. She is a registered speaker for the RPSGB local branch network and lectures to pharmacy undergraduates. She also presents at other national and international conferences.
